My grandfather, Albert 1897-1988.Corporal, British Army in France and Italy 1914-19.Awarded a Military Medal at the battle of the Somme 1916; didn't recall the action due to an accidental double issue of rum.Offered promotion to fight with the White Russians in 1919 but wisely declined.Served in the Home Guard in WW 2.Rode 650cc motorbikes until age 65 when he moved on to cars.
